If you like Band of Brothers or any war movie you should definitly buy this series. It reacreates the hole atmosphere of a warzone, with periods of boredon, tension and fighting. This series managed to get the full picture of a U.S. Marines Regiment, you can clearly see the flow of information from the superior officers to the frontline soldiers and many times you can see how the information can get lost or misinterpreted leading to friendly fire or civilian casualties. It represents perfectly the new kind of war the U.S. is fighting in Iraq.
Also, the evolution of some of the carachters is great, you can feel how the war is affecting the experience of some of the soliders, how they can get pissed off because of the bad orders given by command or how they manage to live with all the destruction and death around them. The reporter is a great addition to the unit, just the expression on his face when he sees a dead body or the way he looks when the bullets start flying gives a sample of how the military training can shape the actions of an individual under pressure, he's completly diferent from a soldier.
The blu-ray version has an on-screen menu, with glossary, chain of command and map of the area, which makes it perfect for the viewer not used to all the military therms and chain of command to better understand the story. Also, talking about military therms, the series is very faithfull to reality when it comes to this, using all the real therms the military use talking over the radio or even when the soldiers talk to each other off-combat.
This is a very realistic series, giving a small scale picture of the war in Iraq. I would recommend this to anyone thinking of buying.

If you can spare the coin, definitely pick up this set. As a former Marine myself, it captures better than any series or movie on Marines I have previously seen, the emotions and interaction of Marines in combat and while at ease. The language used, while crude to some, only made me smile as I could close my eyes and recall the time I served. If you want a taste of what it's like to be around the greatest group of fighting men on Earth, pick up this set.

This series is awesome. I was there for most of it as a member of 1st Recon BN, and I can say that from what I know of the happenings of these 8-10 guys, it is very realistic and well portrayed.

Excellent movie series about the USMC 1st Recon Battalion (my former unit from the early 90's) and their actions in Iraq!! Way to go 1st Recon!!
